Colonia is the oldest town in Uruguay, and was founded by the Portuguese in 1680.<br \/>\nThe historic quarter, where I stayed, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is very beautiful, as you feel transported in time when strolling through the cobbled streets.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1340\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1340\" style=\"width: 540px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/transworldexpedition.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/02_coast.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1340\" title=\"02_coast\" src=\"http:\/\/transworldexpedition.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/02_coast-540x294.jpg\" alt=\"The coast is reminescent of Maine or Brittany\" width=\"540\" height=\"294\" srcset=\"https:\/\/transworldexpedition.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/02_coast-540x294.jpg 540w, https:\/\/transworldexpedition.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/02_coast-1024x558.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/transworldexpedition.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/02_coast.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1340\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The coast is reminescent of Maine or Brittany<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>There, you will not find much to do but walk around and go to the beach. By now, the water is too cold to bath, but the long beaches are empty, and it is the perfect place to relax far from Buenos Aires.<br \/>\nBack in Buenos Aires, I left the apartment I had to go to a backpacker hostel. Sleeping in an 8-person dormitory does save you tons of money (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gardenhouseba.com.ar\/\" target=\"_blank\">Hostel Garden House<\/a>, US$9 a night, highly recommended)<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1337\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1337\" style=\"width: 540px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/transworldexpedition.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/03_SEA.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1337\" title=\"03_SEA\" src=\"http:\/\/transworldexpedition.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/03_SEA-540x288.jpg\" alt=\"On the other side, Buenos Aires\" width=\"540\" height=\"288\" srcset=\"https:\/\/transworldexpedition.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/03_SEA-540x288.jpg 540w, https:\/\/transworldexpedition.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/03_SEA-1024x547.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1337\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">On the other side, Buenos Aires<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Now I am just getting ready for Africa. Reading books and tracing maps. I will fly to Johannesburg on Wednesday, spend few days there, and then take the bus to Durban to begin the customs paperwork. The procedure for the vehicle clearance will probably be a pain, and I have hard time finding the necessary information. As always, I will try to save money by doing all the import procedure myself, but the harbor people don\u2019t like that much, and are reluctant to give information on the procedure.<br \/>\nHopefully I will be driving toward <a href=\"http:\/\/www.krugerpark.co.za\/\" target=\"_blank\">Kruger Park <\/a>around April 30.
